The overarching theme 'Investing in Green Infrastructure' was chosen as the focus area for the London Business School Carbon Club's substantive activities in 2011 and beyond for a number of reasons. In the post-crisis environment, infrastructure investment has received renewed interest among policymakers and investors. There is an increasing recognition that old infrastructure must be upgraded and modernised, while at the same time such investment can help to boost growth and create new jobs. Further, in building the future green economy, there is a significant need for newer, greener infrastructure across key sectors, especially in the areas of energy, transport, and construction but also for the efficient management of natural resources. In the light of operating market failures and tight public budgets, putting in place and financing these technologies is a key challenge. Greater collaboration between public and private sector is needed to move forward on policy reform and on creating and putting in place the mechanisms that can deliver on these investments. |
